The Babelics (63'), Alessandro Quadretti, Italy
The Babelics are irregular artists who work outside or at the edge of the art formalization and the art market to create an imaginary universe of their own. These “marginalised” men mainly work in the inland of Emilia Romagna.
This audio-visual research aims at outlining this anarchic geography bursting with unknown self-learners who devoted decades of their life to create a work of art. Their fascinating and unusual stories show us what happens when “imagination and abusive creativity” meet some incredible men – men whose hands can transform steel, wood, cement, rubbish, scraps and common materials into a masterpiece. The result is a marvellous art form placed between art brut and a naïve, visionary handcraft.
